The Third Annual Conference on LGBTQ Intimate Partner and Domestic Violence

The past two years’ conferences were huge successes with over 200 participants. Each year the Real Lives, Real Survivors conference promises frank and creative dialogue between LGBTQ individuals and their allies and seeks to explore the intersecting identities of lesbian, gay, transgender, bisexual and queer (LGBTQ) communities in New York City as we address intimate partner and domestic violence. In particular, the conference will discuss how our identities – youth, elder, immigrant, poor, queer, person of color, survivor, for example – intersect for LGBTQ people and that affects our ability to respond to intimate partner and domestic violence. This conference hopes to raise awareness of the dynamics of intimate partner and domestic violence in LGBTQ relationships; increase the accessibility to services for LGBTQ survivors of domestic violence and ensure that those services are informed by innovative best practice models. Real Lives, Real Survivors offers opportunities to strengthen coalitions among survivors, activists, community members, advocates and service providers so that we can work together to end all forms of oppression, which are the root of domestic violence.
